Dental X-Rays for Children

At Creative Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that every child is unique–and so are their dental needs. Because of this, X-rays are only taken after reviewing your child’s medical and dental history, performing a clinical examination, and determining that additional diagnostic information is needed beyond what can be seen with the eye.

In general, children need X-rays more frequently than adults. Their mouths grow and change rapidly, and they are often more prone to tooth decay than adults are. For children at higher risk of cavities, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends X-rays every six months to detect decay between the teeth. Children at lower risk may require X-rays less frequently.

Pediatric dentists take special care to minimize radiation exposure. We use protective lead aprons and shields, and our advanced equipment filters out unnecessary radiation while focusing the X-ray beam only on the targeted area. High-speed film, digital X-rays, and proper shielding ensure that your child receives a minimal amount of radiation exposure.
